Tartan is a patterned cloth consisting of crisscrossing, horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours. Tartans originated in woven wool, but now they are made in many other materials.

The Royal Stewart or Stuart tartan is the most well-known tartan. It is the personal tartan of Queen Elizabeth II.

Traditionally, this tartan should not be worn without the express permission of the Queen. However, due to its popularity, it has become a universal tartan, which can be worn by anyone who does not have their own clan tartan... Sorry Lizzie!

This tartan is made up of red as the main colour but has accents of white, dark red and green.

Polyviscose is a mixture of polyester and viscose making it a durable and versatile fabric. It has a similar feeling to wool but can be produced for much lower costs. It is often used in country wear and kilts.
